A pedestrian was struck and killed in a crash on the southbound 5 Freeway at Gene Autry Way in Anaheim early Thursday morning, May 15, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred shortly after 2:30 a.m. when the pedestrian was walking on the right shoulder of the freeway and was struck by a vehicle near Katella Avenue.
The unidentified pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene following the collision.
Authorities closed the two right lanes of the freeway as they investigated the incident and awaited the arrival of the Orange County coroner.
The affected lanes were reopened shortly after 4:30 a.m. The crash remains under investigation.
