[07-29-2025] Monterey County, CA โ€“ Two People Injured After Crane Veered Off Highway 101 and Landed on Another Vehicle in Salinas

Two people were injured after a crane veered off Highway 101 and landed on another vehicle in Salinas on Tuesday morning, July 29, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 6:13 a.m. when a 35-year-old man from Sutter Creek was driving a Ford truck southbound on Highway 101. The vehicle struck a guardrail, broke through it, and landed on a Jeep Cherokee at the intersection of Griffin Street and East Alisal Street.

CHP spokesperson Saul Perez confirmed that the driver of the crane sustained major injuries. The second party, a 45-year-old woman from Salinas, suffered minor injuries and is recovering.

CHP stated that two vehicles were involved in the incident. The cause of the crash has not been determined, and it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
