Pedestrian Accident Statistics
Walking is a healthy and common way to get around, but it can also be dangerous, especially near busy roads. Unlike drivers or passengers in cars, pedestrians do not have any physical protection, which makes them more likely to get hurt in an accident.
In 2023, there were 1,106 pedestrian deaths reported in California. This was a slight drop of about 9% compared to 2022. Even though the number went down a little, pedestrian safety is still a major concern because people who walk near traffic are always at risk.
