Two pedestrians were hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle in downtown Berkeley on Friday night, August 8, 2025.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred shortly before 11:20 p.m. at the intersection of Shattuck and Durant avenues.
Authorities said a black Honda was traveling southbound on Shattuck Avenue when it struck the two pedestrians. Firefighters arriving at the scene found an injured woman lying on the ground and a young man who had also been hit, screaming in pain.
The driver stopped and cooperated with the investigation. Police said they do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.
Berkeley police closed the area to traffic, including AC Transit service, while officers collected witness statements and checked on the patientsโ conditions at Highland Hospital. The investigation is ongoing.
