Truck Accident Statistics

Large trucks are essential for transporting goods, but their size and weight make collisions with smaller vehicles particularly dangerous. In 2023, the National Safety Council (NSC) reported 5,375 fatal crashes involving large trucks nationwide, representing an 8.4 percent decrease from 2022.

Despite this short-term decline, the number of fatal truck crashes has increased by 43 percent over the past decade. These figures indicate that while temporary improvements have been made, the long-term trend continues to show a rising number of deadly incidents involving large trucks, emphasizing the ongoing risks these vehicles pose on U.S. roads.
