[03-04-2026] Butte County, CA – DUI Driver Arrested After Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Esplande

A driver was arrested for driving under the influence after causing a fatal crash with a motorcycle in Chico on Wednesday night, March 4, 2026.

According to the Chico Police Department, officers responded to the crash in the 3000 block of Esplanade at 6:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, they found the motorcyclist, 34-year-old Cameron P., of Chico, lying in the roadway.

Several citizens provided life-saving assistance before first responders arrived. The rider was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The CPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team determined the motorcyclist was struck after 40-year-old Orlando V. turned his vehicle directly into the rider’s path. Following the initial collision, the victim was struck by another driver.

Both involved drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Orlando V. was arrested for DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He has been booked into the Butte County Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing.
