[05-06-2024] San Bernardino County, CA – Worker Killed, Another Injured After Box Truck Crash on 71 Freeway in Chino Hills

A contract worker was killed, and another was injured after being struck by a box truck in Chino Hills on Monday morning, May 6, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. off the northbound 71 Freeway just past Euclid Avenue.

Authorities stated that a white box truck sideswiped another vehicle before losing control and traveling down an embankment, where it struck two workers who were part of a cleanup crew working below the freeway. The workers’ vehicle had been parked on the shoulder while the crew conducted cleanup operations.

One worker was pronounced dead at the scene. A second worker sustained major injuries and was transported to a hospital, where they are expected to survive.

The driver of the box truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Officials reported that drugs and alcohol were not considered factors in the crash.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the incident.
