[05-22-2026] Riverside County, CA – Motorist Critically Injured in Two-Big-Rig Crash on I-10 in Desert Center

A 31-year-old man sustained major injuries following a two-vehicle collision involving two big rigs on Interstate 10 in Desert Center, Riverside County, on Friday morning, May 22, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly before 5:20 a.m. east of Corn Springs Road.

Authorities stated that a big rig, driven by a 63-year-old man, was traveling at approximately 50 mph when it was rear-ended by a second big rig moving at around 55 mph. The impact caused the cab of the second big rig to dislodge from its frame.

The injured motorist, a 31-year-old man from Bell Gardens, was airlifted via helicopter to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. The other driver was not injured.

Alcohol and drugs were not considered factors in the collision. CHP noted that fatigue may have contributed to the crash.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
