[05-22-2026] San Diego County, CA – Woman Killed After Being Hit By Vehicle at Bus Shelter in Southcrest

A 27-year-old woman was killed after being struck by a vehicle at a bus shelter in the Southcrest neighborhood of San Diego on Friday, May 22, 2026.

According to the San Diego Police Department, officers responded around 1:39 p.m. to the 3500 block of National Avenue.

Authorities stated that a 44-year-old woman driving eastbound drifted into the westbound lane and onto the north sidewalk, crashing into a bus bench and the victim, who was seated in a partially enclosed bus shelter.

The victim suffered fatal injuries at the scene. The driver initially fled but was later located nearby and arrested on felony hit-and-run charges.

The SDPD Traffic Division is handling the investigation.
