[09-08-2026] Sacramento County, CA – Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck By Vehicle on Highway 50

A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle on westbound Highway 50 in Sacramento on Tuesday night, September 8, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, dispatchers received a report around 9:55 p.m. of a pedestrian lying on the W/X portion of the highway east of Interstate 5. Responding officers found a man dead at the scene.

CHP’s preliminary investigation indicated that the pedestrian was in the No. 7 lane of westbound Highway 50. A motorist traveling in the same lane reportedly swerved left to avoid another vehicle ahead but was unable to stop before striking the pedestrian.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. CHP said driving under the influence was not suspected to be a factor in the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
