Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics

Many California drivers aren’t aware that single-vehicle collisions are among the most hazardous.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, sixty-two percent of fatal car accidents in California involve a solo vehicle. Drivers in California, where single-vehicle accidents are all too common, need to be aware of the many contributing factors.

A single-vehicle collision can occur for a variety of reasons. A run-off-the-road accident occurs when a driver loses control while speeding or making sharp turns on a wet, slippery road. The road may also be littered with debris, such as a large branch or a piece of a truck that fell off.

In the event of a single-car accident caused by something other than your or another driver’s negligence, such as a deer jumping in front of your vehicle, the comprehensive coverage plan of your insurance policy will likely limit your recovery.

Stanislaus County Car Accident Lawyers

Because of their injuries, many car accident victims are unable to return to work or school. When someone dies as a result of the negligence of another driver, that person is still held accountable for their actions. Victim’s family members can file wrongful death lawsuits against the negligent driver who caused their loved one’s death (or legal heirs).

For them, the process of reliving their losses and grief is a painful one. In depositions and trials, victims are required to give testimony about their losses to strangers. Dealing with the stress of a lengthy legal battle can have a negative impact on one’s mental health.

A negligent driver should be held accountable if they cause an accident. Accountability is critical in cases where negligence resulted in a high death toll. Wrongful death lawsuits can be draining on the hearts of grieving families, but they can also bring some solace. This is a win-win situation for everyone on California’s roads.
