According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a fiery crash left one woman dead and several others injured on 118 Freeway in Porter Ranch Friday morning, June 10, 2022.
The crash first occurred just before 11:45 p.m. on the westbound lanes of the 118 Freeway, just east of Reseda Boulevard.
The vehicle, which was carrying a family of five, careened off the road and into an embankment, colliding with a fuel line in the process.
The vehicle caught fire after the second impact, causing significant damage.
Four of the vehicle’s occupants were rescued by Los Angeles Police Department SWAT officers who happened to be driving by at the time, but the mother was not.
Zeomara C., a 31-year-old mother, died on the spot.
The other four occupants, three believed to be children, were all rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Officers from the California Highway Patrol discovered that the driver of the vehicle, the father, was drunk and unable to negotiate the roadway, resulting in the crash.
He was arrested and booked on suspicion of driving under the influence and manslaughter.
Following the first collision, a second collision involving three vehicles occurred just feet away as they began to slow down due to the vehicle engulfed in flames on the side of the road.
Two of the people who were involved in the second incident also suffered moderate to major injuries.
The accident is still being investigated.
