According to the California Highway Patrol, a woman is dead, and five people were hurt in a two-vehicle collision just south of Mendota Tuesday, July 5, 2022.
According to the Los Banos California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at about 4:45 a.m. on West Panoche Road and Highway 33.
A 2003 Nissan Sentra was westbound on West Panoche Road. Alberto R., 32, of Fresno, tried to cross Highway 33 after stopping at a stop sign.
The CHP said the Nissan veered into the path of a southbound 2001 Toyota Sienna driven by Santos V.,55, of Mendota.
According to the release, the Toyota hit the Nissan’s right side.
Rojas was airlifted to Madera Community Regional Hospital with serious injuries. A 32-year-old woman in the Nissan’s front right passenger seat died at the hospital, according to the CHP.
The Nissan’s back seat passenger also suffered major injuries.
The CHP says Valentin suffered minor injuries in the crash and refused medical attention. Mendota men ages 59 and 62 were passengers in the Toyota and received moderate injuries.
The 26-year-old Nissan passenger and 43-year-old Toyota passenger reported minor injuries and were not transported.
The CHP said drugs and alcohol weren’t factors in the crash.
Investigations into the crash are still ongoing.
