Train Accident Statistics

There are times when trains aren’t the most efficient or cost-effective mode of transportation in a given city. The number of people killed or injured while traveling has risen sharply in recent years.

The United States has seen several train accidents. An average of 5,800 train-car mishaps occur each year in the United States. They’re most frequently seen at railroad crossings. These accidents resulted in the deaths of 600 people and the injury of 2,300 others.

According to the US Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Federal Railroad Administration, about 80 percent of railroad crossings lack adequate warning devices.

In most train accidents, derailments, shoddy track maintenance, lack of safety regulations, and other carelessness are to blame.
