One person sustained non-life-threatening injuries following a high-speed chase with police on Fresno highways on Tuesday, July 12, 2022.
The crash occurred on a Tuesday evening near Manning Avenue and Highway 41.
The California Highway Patrol officers came across a Kia Optima with an expired registration while on patrol.
According to CHP spokesperson Mike Salas, officers turned on the lights in their car, but the car accelerated to over 100 mph.
The car entered Highway 41, going the wrong way, against the traffic flow.
The pursuit continued northbound on the center median until the suspect reached the Lincoln Avenue overpass, where he exited and re-entered northbound Highway 41.
The pursuit that extended to portions of Highway 99 was assisted by the helicopter of the Fresno Police Department.
The man continued eastbound on Highway 41 before switching to Highway 180.
The pursuit continued on Highway 180 with speeds up to 100 mph until exiting at Chestnut Avenue.
The man struck a Mitsubishi Mirage head-on at around 20 mph, causing moderate damage.
The other driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect, identified as Christopher A., was detained by police.
According to Salas, he was booked in the Fresno County jail on three felony charges.
The pursuit lasted more than 30 minutes.
