Two people died, and five others were injured in a multi-vehicle accident in Baker on Tuesday, July 19, 2022.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the three-vehicle traffic crash reported at 12:33 p.m. on northbound I-15, right after the Kelbaker Road exit.
The three vehicles involved in the collision were a red sedan, a gray Ford Escape SUV, and a blue pickup truck.
Two adults who were reported to be unconscious and a child who was ejected from the car seat both received aid from firefighters.
The rescue teams requested three medical helicopters and many ground ambulances to transport everyone with serious injuries. Firefighters requested landings from Mercy Air #21, Mercy Air #24, and Mercy #66.
Two medical helicopters had to be canceled when two people were confirmed dead at the scene before 1 p.m. One person in critical condition was airlifted to Sunrise Medical Center in Las Vegas by the third helicopter, Mercy Air #66.
According to reports, four people were taken by ground ambulance to nearby hospitals.
The crash resulted in a full freeway closure for the northbound lanes for the investigation for about 3 hours.
CHP has not yet given additional information. The Barstow Office of the California Highway Patrol will look into this incident.
