FATAL MOTORCYCLE CRASH STATISTICS

Motorcycle riders do not have the same level of protection as car drivers. Regarding speed and driving conditions, they are identical to cars but do not provide the same level of protection.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motorcycles are involved in approximately 11% of all traffic collisions in the United States. In 2018, there were 4,985 motorcycle fatalities and 82,000 motorcycle injuries.

A motorcycle rider is 16 times more likely than a passenger in an enclosed vehicle to be injured or killed in a car accident.

Unfortunately, motorcycle riders in California are not in a very safe state. California has the most legally owned motorcycles in the country, with over 800,000 registered motorcycles. In 2017, California had at least 15,527 injuries and 541 fatalities in 16,505 motorcycle accidents.

Even during the day, some motorists may struggle to see motorcycles due to poor visibility. Wearing reflective clothing is the best way to attract the attention of other drivers on the road.

Even if it does not conform to some people’s fashion standards, staying safe on the road is more important than making a fashion statement.
