A multi-vehicle crash in Riverside killed one person and injured four others on the 91 Freeway on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.
The accident occurred at approximately 12:48 a.m. between Van Buren Boulevard and Adams Street.
According to the Riverside California Highway Patrol, police discovered two vehicles flipped over and another on fire.
The victim was declared dead at the scene.
According to Riverside County Fire Authority (RCFA) Battalion Chief Pat Hopkins, four people were rushed to the hospital, two of whom were in serious condition while two had minor injuries.
According to Hopkins, fire from the collision spread behind the apartment complex bushes in the 8700 block of Indiana Avenue.
Firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the flames. The debris from the vehicles was scattered over multiple lanes of the freeway.
The CHP issued a SigAlert for the shutdown of all freeway lanes.
The case remains under investigation.
