One man died, and two women were injured after being struck by a van while crossing at the South Pasadena intersection on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.
According to Sgt. Spencer Louie of the South Pasadena Police Department (SPPD), the accident happened shortly before 8:30 p.m. at the junction of Marengo Avenue and Maple Street.
Officers found that the driver of a Toyota Sienna van was traveling north on Marengo Avenue when the van entered the intersection and failed to stop at the stop sign.
The three victims were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but the man was later pronounced dead.
The van’s driver remained at the scene.
It remained uncertain whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident.
The victim’s identity was not disclosed, pending notification from relatives.
Marengo Avenue was blocked between Huntington Drive and Alhambra Road for many hours.
The officials were to further investigate the case.
