[07-31-2022] San Diego County, CA - DUI Single-Vehicle Crash Plunges Car into the Bay near Harbor Island DriveTwo people were injured after crashing and plunging into the bay because of driving under the influence near Port of San Diego Sunday, July 31, 2022.

According to the Port of San Diego Harbor Police, the crash occurred at 1:00 a.m. into the bay from Harbor Island Drive.

The two people have escaped their Kia Soul sinking into a San Diego Bay by swimming out an open window.

The two swimmers were both injured, but were able to swim back to shore, according to the Port of San Diego Harbor Police.

An arrest was made after the crash on a drunken driving charge against the 48-year-old driver.

In addition to the 22-year-old woman, a 22-year-old man was in the car as well.

The car was towed from the ocean by a tow truck.
