Two-Vehicle Collision Statistics

About one car accident occurs every sixty seconds somewhere in the United States. The fact that millions of vehicles travel through U.S. roads every day does not surprise me. At least four million people are injured in traffic accidents each year across the country.

A total of 36,560 people lost their lives in vehicle accidents last year, according to the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) of the United States Department of Transportation. Reckless driving, distracted driving, speeding, drunk driving, and mechanical failure are just some of the most common reasons car accidents happen. In this case, the accident was caused by a drunk driver.

Driving while high on drugs or alcohol is one of the most irresponsible and dangerous things a driver can do. Impaired driving increases the likelihood of being involved in an accident. Unfortunately, 28 people are killed in the United States every day as a result of drunk drivers. In 2016, alcohol-impaired driving crashes killed 10,497 people, accounting for 28% of all traffic-related deaths in the United States.
