At least one person was injured after a motorcycle crash in Sacramento on Wednesday morning, October 14.
According to the California Highway Patrol’s initial reports, the accident transpired at around 8:15 a.m. near the intersection of Florin Road and Southgate Drive. An unspecified vehicle cut-off a motorcycle at the intersection. This then caused the motorcycle to lose control and eventually crash into a center divider.
How the collision occurred, and the reason why it happened is currently unclear. The vehicle that cut-off the motorcyclist was not found at the scene. The rider was ejected from his motorcycle due to the severity of the impact. The man sustained minor injuries from the mishap.
Motorcycle Accident Investigation is Underway
The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the possible factors that caused the collision.
Motorcycle accidents can often lead to catastrophic and even devastating results. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s National Center for Statistics and Analysis, approximately 5,286 motorcyclists were killed in the U.S. in 2016 alone. Some of the common causes of motorcycle accidents are distracted driving, speeding, drunk driving, reckless driving, bad weather, wrong-way driving, and failure to observe traffic laws.
Motorcycle riders are more vulnerable to the road’s dangers than passengers of private cars as seat belts, or airbags do not protect them. Motorcycle riders are encouraged to dress appropriately and wear a helmet every time they ride their motorcycle to avoid life-threatening injuries and possibly death. Wearing helmets were estimated to be 37% effective in preventing motorcycle deaths.
