[05-15-2021] Sacramento County, CA – One Person Killed After Fatal DUI Accident on Highway 99

A 31-year-old man identified as David Jerome S. was killed after a fatal DUI collision on Highway 99 on Saturday morning, May 15.

The fatal collision took place on northbound Highway 99, south of Florin Road, at approximately 1:49 a.m.

A 19-year-old man identified as Alan R. was driving a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling fast in the slow lane of U.S. Highway 99. The Silverado then encountered traffic and attempted to avoid it by swerving his vehicle off the roadway.

The Silverado then struck a sign and a chain-link fence along the road before veering back onto the road, where it hit the center divider. A passenger in the Silverado was then ejected onto the roadway.

The Silverado then collided head-on with a northbound Honda Oddysey driven by Davide Jerome S. The driver of the Honda was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Nissan Murano attempted to avoid the crash site but veered into the center divider, where it struck the ejected Silverado passenger. The Silverado passenger sustained serious injuries from the accident and was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Silverado driver was also injured in the accident. Authorities later determined that he was driving while under the influence at the time of the accident.

The suspect was then arrested on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter charges. An investigation of the accident is currently underway.
