[07-30-2020] San Bernardino, CA – 2 Killed, Two Injured After a Car Crash in Baker

Two people were killed while two others were injured due to a fatal traffic collision on a freeway in Baker on Thursday morning, July 30.

According to the initial reports from local news sources, the deadly collision happened at approximately 5:17 a.m. The Chevrolet developed a flat tire on the roadway. A GMC tow truck driver assisted. The tow truck and the 2002 Chevrolet were both parked on the right-hand shoulder of the freeway.

A 2013 Freightliner towing two bottom-dump trailers was heading southbound in the No.2 lane at high speed, it then drifted onto the west shoulder of the interstate where the GMC two truck and the Chevrolet were parked. The 2013 Freightliner then crashed into the GMC tow truck and the Chevrolet in the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 Freeway, just south of Rasor Road. The GMC and the Chevrolet then later stopped in the open desert terrain while the Freightliner ended up in the center divider.

The tow truck driver and the Chevrolet driver were both pronounced dead at the scene. The other occupants (an older woman and two juveniles) of the Chevrolet sustained severe injuries and were immediately transported to the Barstow Community Hospital to receive treatment. The driver of the Freightliner was reportedly uninjured.
