[06-01-2021] San Diego County, CA – Woman Killed After a Fatal Wrong-Way Collision in Carmel Valley

A 52-year-old woman was killed after a deadly head-on traffic collision in the Carmel Valley area on early Tuesday morning, June 1st.

The collision happened on the southbound side of Interstate 5 near Carmel Mountain Road at approximately 12:50 p.m. A northbound Dodge Magnum was traveling in the southbound lanes for unclear reasons. The Dodge then collided head-on with a white Honda Civic.

After the initial collision, then Dodge then later struck a Ford pickup truck. A 52-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. The Ford and the Dodge drivers sustained major injuries after the crash. They were both taken to an area hospital for treatment.

It is unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision. Local authorities are further investigating the case. Witnesses that can give more information about the accident are urged to contact the CHP San Diego Area Special Investigations Unit at 858-293-6000.
