Two 12-year-old girls were injured after a major head-on collision in Joshua Tree on Saturday afternoon, January 1, 2022.
The accident transpired at approximately 3:30 p.m. in the area of Sunfair Dry Lake Bed in Joshua Tree.
An eastbound 2011 Nissan Frontier was traveling on Sunfair Lake Bed when it went over the dirt berms and collided head-on with an oncoming 1974 GMC truck.
Both drivers attempted to turn south to avoid the collision, but unfortunately, they could not successfully avoid each other.
A 12-year-old girl was seriously injured in the crash and was airlifted to Loma Linda Hospital. Meanwhile, another young girl was injured and was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center.
A four-year-old boy sustained minor injuries and was also taken to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment. The identities of the involved parties have not been disclosed.
Drugs and alcohol were not considered as factors in the case. An active investigation of the crash is currently underway.
