A man was detained after a motorist suffered injuries from a two-vehicle collision in Downey early Wednesday morning, January 25, 2023.
According to reports, the crash occurred around 12:20 a.m. at the Florence Avenue off-ramp.
Authorities received calls of a black Camaro stopped on the southbound I-605 Freeway at Washington Boulevard with a man on top of a woman punching her.
Upon arrival at the scene, the suspect got in the Camaro and drove away at 130 mph.
Officers started following the suspect down the 605, but they lost the car at the 5 Freeway interchange.
Authorities searched the area and found that the suspect hit a red pickup truck, which flipped over and hit a traffic light pole and a fence.
The female victim, who was alone in the truck, escaped with minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for more tests.
The suspect was found at the scene, and CHP officers took him into custody. He was charged with domestic violence, evading arrest, and several other charges.
