A pickup truck driver was fatally struck after a train crash in Oakland on Thursday afternoon, January 26, 2023.
Reports indicated that the deadly collision transpired around 4:45 p.m., close to Madera Avenue and Poplar Avenue in Shafter.
According to authorities, the driver was struck by an Amtrak train traveling from Bakersfield to Oakland.
The truck driver was pronounced dead on the spot. Meanwhile, both the train’s crew and passengers sustained no injuries.
The area was closed for several hours so law enforcement could examine the scene and clean it up.
The accident caused a several-hour delay in another Amtrak train.
One woman described the incident as frightening because she had a family member traveling on the train.
Before they could proceed to their destinations, both trains were delayed for several hours.
The truck’s driver’s identity has yet to be determined.
Investigations are currently ongoing.
