A 28-year-old woman who reportedly exited a car was killed after being struck by another vehicle in Castro Valley, Alameda County, on Monday morning, January 30, 2023.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal pedestrian crash occurred at around 5:00 a.m. along Interstate Highway 580 at the Interstate 238 connector.
The woman from Turlock appeared to have hopped out of a car and started walking along the highway. A 71-year-old woman from Castro Valley driving a Honda CRV east on I-580 hit her. She was declared dead on the spot.
The car the victim exited from was a white Chevy Malibu that was still occupied and not disabled. As the investigation into what caused her to exit the car continued, domestic violence or other conflicts were not initially believed to be at play.
The driver that struck the woman remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. Neither alcohol nor drugs were believed to have played a role in the crash.
