An 83-year-old woman was injured following a two-vehicle head-on collision in East County, San Diego, on Tuesday night, January 31, 2023.
According to the San Diego Police Department, the crash occurred shortly before 10:45 p.m. at the intersection of Mission Gorge Road and Mission Vista Drive.
The elderly female driver was traveling west on Mission Gorge, approaching the crossroads in her 1996 Ford Crown Victoria. Another woman, 22, was traveling east on the same road in her 2010 Honda Civic, ready to turn left onto Mission Vista.
Both drivers reported claiming to have a green signal, which caused a head-on collision as the Honda driver turned in front of the Ford. Authorities have not identified who was at fault, though alcohol was ruled out.
The elderly woman sustained fractures to her sternum, right ankle, and left femur. She was taken to a nearby hospital and her current state is unknown. There is no information on the other driver.
The crash is being looked into by the SDPD Traffic Division, who responded to the site.
