A man was killed and another was injured and hospitalized following a multi-vehicle collision in San Jose, Santa Clara County, on Wednesday morning, February 01, 2023.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal chain-reaction car crash occurred at around 5:55 a.m. along the US-101 northbound side, north of Story Road.
A 39-year-old Gilroy man was traveling on the highway’s first lane in his 2007 Toyota at about 65 mph when a 2017 Toyota driven by a 19-year-old Gilroy man rear-ended him. The impact sent the 2007 Toyota to hit the back of a 2004 Toyota, which in turn smashed into a Freightliner big rig that was moving in the number three lane.
The 39-year-old driver of the 2007 Toyota was killed in the collision, while the driver of the 2004 Toyota was transported to San Jose Regional Medical Center after sustaining moderate injuries.
All parties involved reportedly remained on the scene and were cooperative with the authorities in the investigation that closed the highway’s northbound lanes for roughly an hour.
No other information was readily available, but CHP said there was no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved.
