Fatal Reckless Accident Statistics

Carelessness on the part of drivers is a leading cause of serious traffic accidents in the United States, accounting for hundreds of deaths and thousands of automobiles damaged yearly. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration defines “reckless driving” as the operation of a motor vehicle while demonstrating “a wanton disregard” for the safety of other drivers, passengers, and pedestrians.

It is close to impossible to accurately estimate the number of fatal crashes that can be attributed to reckless driving. But according to a AAA survey conducted in 2009, between 2003 and 2007, reckless driving was a factor in 56% of accidents.

One of the biggest causes of mortality on U.S. roadways is speeding, as reported by the Fatal Accident Reporting System maintained by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

What to Do After a Car Accident

It is imperative to contact local authorities in the event of a fatal or life-threatening car accident. It’s best not to make assumptions when being questioned and instead to tell what happened simply. Even if they had nothing to do with the incident, the victim might feel compelled to apologize for it. Your insurance company can use this behavior as justification to deny your claim if you ever decide to make a claim in the future.

If you would like a copy of the report, please contact the local police agency that investigated the incident. You can also fill out a form on our site, and we’ll contact them on your behalf. We will start processing your claim as soon as we get all the information we require. If you need assistance determining whether or not your claim has merit, please contact us.
