A person changing the tire of his truck was struck and killed by another vehicle driven by a drunk driver in Victorville on Monday evening, February 06, 2023.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly crash occurred at about 7:15 p.m. on the northbound lane of Interstate 15 freeway north of the Palmdale Road E. offramp.
Two vehicles were involved: a white truck and a black 2017 Chevrolet Cruze. Responders from CHP, the Victorville Fire Department, and AMR found the male truck driver dead under the Chevy sedan.
The truck’s rear passenger-side tire on a jack and a tire close by suggested that the man was changing a tire outside his vehicle beneath the overpass of Palmdale Road when he was hit. His car was also reportedly loaded with bricks.
The Chevy’s female driver stayed on the scene and was cooperative. She was later detained on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated after officers found at least one beer can in her purse.
CHP officials are still looking further into the fatal collision.
Fatal Drunk Driving Accident Statistics
Official reports stated that In 2019, 949 of the 10,142 individuals who died in the United States due to drunk driving were tallied in California. There were 2.4 incidences per 100,000 people as a result (a 3.1 rate in the whole country). 26.3% of all fatal accidents in the state involved drunk driving (and 28.1 percent nationwide).
Even while both the incidence of drunk driving and the number of deaths it caused has fallen since the 1980s, a different report indicated that there are still millions of intoxicated drivers on the road every year, causing problems.
If your blood alcohol concentration (BAC) is 0.08 or higher, driving in California is unlawful. Impaired drivers are a danger to other road users and pedestrians because they lack the impulse control needed to safely operate a motor vehicle.
