Fatal DUI Accident Statistics

The numbers show that in 2019, 949 of the 10,142 people killed in America due to drunk driving were recorded in the Golden State. This resulted in 2.4 incidents per 100,000 inhabitants (a 3.1 rate in the whole country). Drunk driving had a role in 26.3% of all fatal accidents in the state (and 28.1 percent nationwide).

While the rate of drunk driving and the number of fatalities associated with it both decreased in the 1980s, another study found that millions of drunk drivers remain an issue every year across the country.

In the Golden State, if your BAC is 0.08 or more, it’s illegal to get behind the wheel. Drunk drivers pose a threat to other motorists and pedestrians because they are less able to regulate their actions while impaired.

What to Do After a DUI Accident

Notifying the proper authorities promptly following an automobile accident caused by a DUI driver that may have resulted in serious injuries or fatalities is essential. If you’re asked a question, it’s better to answer straight rather than offer your assumptions. Victims may feel responsible and apologize for what happened, even though they played no part in it. The insurance company can use this against you if you ever make a claim.
