Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash Statistics
A multi-vehicle collision occurs when three or more vehicles crash on the road. They are typically triggered by a “chain-reaction” crash, in which one vehicle collides with another, potentially causing it to collide with other vehicles on the road.
According to a recent National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) study, more than 13,000 people were killed in multi-vehicle collisions involving passenger automobiles, accounting for more than 40% of all motor vehicle accidents each year.
Traffic accidents can be life-altering and catastrophic. Because car accidents have become so regular in our lives, drivers often fail to grasp how dangerous autos can become and how quickly severe and even fatal car accidents can occur.
Millions of people are injured in car accidents on American highways every year, and tens of thousands of drivers and passengers are murdered. According to the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) of the United States Department of Transportation, 33,654 fatal car crashes occurred in 2018, resulting in 36,560 deaths.
Drunk driving, speeding, and being distracted while driving is all common causes of these types of accidents.
