A male driver was sent to the hospital following a fiery two-vehicle collision caused by a high-speed chase of an armed robbery suspect in La Habra on early Friday morning, February 10, 2023.
According to the Fullerton Police Department, the crash that followed the pursuit occurred after 1:00 a.m. at the South Beach Boulevard and West Imperial Highway intersection.
The Fullerton Police tried to pull over a suspect of an armed robbery operating a Ford Explorer on Harbor Boulevard and Chapman Avenue in Garden Grove. The driver from San Bernardino refused to stop and led the authorities on a pursuit from Fullerton to La Habra.
The chase ended when the suspect vehicle crashed into a black BMW in La Habra, causing the BMW to flip on its side and the Ford to catch fire. The suspect driver was killed at the scene after getting shot by the police, the circumstances of which remained unclear.
The innocent driver, identified as Michael S., was injured and transported to a nearby hospital. Updates revealed he is now in stable condition. The authorities are conducting further investigation into the whole event.
Reckless Accident Statistics
Every year in the United States, hundreds of lives are lost and thousands of cars are damaged due to careless driving. Driving with “a wanton disregard” for the safety of other motorists, passengers, and pedestrians is what the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration means when they use the term “reckless driving.”
Estimating how many fatalities may be traced back to careless driving is an incredibly difficult task. However, a 2009 AAA survey found that reckless driving played a role in about 56 percent of accidents from 2003 to 2007.
According to the Fatal Accident Reporting System by the NHTSA, speeding is a major contributing factor in vehicular accidents that result in fatalities in the United States.
What to Do After a Car Accident
Major injuries or fatalities sustained in a road collision must be reported immediately to the authorities. Don’t make any assumptions when responding to a question. Just be honest and respond to the inquiry. The victim may feel compelled to offer an apology, even if they were entirely blameless. Insurers can consider this sort of conduct as evidence to reject a claim.
You can get a copy of the report by contacting the investigating authorities. We can fulfill your request if you complete our online form. The sooner we have the following information, the sooner we can begin processing your claim. We will evaluate the merits of your claim without charging you a fee.
