Multi-Vehicle Crash Statistics

According to the NHTSA, more than 5.2 million car accidents were reported in the United States in 2020. More than 30% of such crashes (1.6 million) resulted in injuries, while less than 1% (35,766) resulted in fatalities.

According to trends, fatal collisions increased by 6.8% between 2019 and 2020, with the death rate rising to 1.34 per 100 million miles driven. In 2020, 79 injuries were reported per 100 million miles traveled, a decrease of 6% from the previous year.

Sixty-seven percent of those killed or seriously injured in automobile accidents are drivers, 24% are passengers, 4% are motorcycle riders, 3% are pedestrians, and 2% are pedal cyclists.

When three or more vehicles collide, this is referred to as a multiple-vehicle collision. Following an accident, as many as six cars may become entangled.

Unlike traffic accidents, multi-vehicle crashes frequently result in fatalities, serious injuries, and property damage. If you lose control or become oblivious to your surroundings, everyone around you may suffer. Such accidents are more likely to occur in the majority of cases.

What To Do After an Accident

Ensure law enforcement arrives at the collision scene and files a report. Tell the truth about what you saw and experienced during an accident scene interview. Make sure your words are carefully chosen, and don’t make assumptions about things you don’t understand. Anxiety and shock can cause accident victims to apologize profusely, even when they are not at fault. The insurance company may use this act of kindness as evidence that you have admitted guilt to avoid paying for your claim.

California’s high rate of traffic accidents has injured pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicle passengers.
