Two people suffered severe injuries following a multi-vehicle collision in San Diego on Tuesday morning, February 14, 2023.
Reports indicated that the crash transpired around 7:00 a.m. on Mission Gorge Road near Jackson Drive.
According to authorities, a silver sedan driving down the hill was rear-ended by another vehicle, sending it into an intersection where a van collided with the sedan’s side.
One person was taken to Sharp Memorial with critical injuries, while another was taken to Grossmont Hospital with other serious injuries.
There is no information on which vehicles the patients were in or what caused the initial collision between the cars speeding down the hill.
Multi-Vehicle Collision Statistics
In 2020, more than 5.2 million car accidents were reported in the United States, as reported by the NHTSA. In over 30% of such crashes (1.6 million), injuries were sustained, while fewer than 1% (35,766) resulted in fatalities.
Death rates increased to 1.34 deaths per 100 million miles driven between 2019 and 2020, a 6.8% increase. In 2020, 79 injuries occurred per 100 million vehicle miles traveled, a 6% decrease over the previous year.
Drivers make up 67%of those killed or seriously injured in car crashes, passengers make up 24%, motorcycle riders make up 4%, pedestrians make up 3%, and pedal cyclists make up 2%.
A multiple-vehicle crash occurs when three or more vehicles collide. When multiple cars are involved in an accident, up to six may be entangled at the same time.
In contrast to traffic accidents, multi-vehicle accidents usually cause fatalities, serious injuries, and property damage. Poor situational awareness may also have adverse effects on everyone around you. Accidents of this nature are more likely to occur in most cases.
What Should I Do After an Accident
You should file a police report once you gather information, assuming it is safe. By doing this, police can keep information about what happened during an accident on a central database, retain those records within their department, and keep the data secure.
When an accident occurs, the police typically attend the scene, but if they don’t, you can contact your local police to file the accident report by phone or in person after the fact. If the police are off the collision scene, they will collect the information independently and prepare a statement later.
