Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics
According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, 7,485 pedestrian fatalities occurred in 2021.
Speed-related pedestrian deaths increased by 8.6% in 2020 compared to 2019. Pedestrian safety is greatly affected by speed. Pedestrian fatalities increase dramatically with vehicle speed, from 10% at 23 mph to 90% at 58 mph.
Accidents involving pedestrians are often fatal. In almost all collisions between cars and pedestrians, serious injuries occur.
Nowadays, pedestrian injuries and fatalities are more common than ever. In car accidents, pedestrians are always the most vulnerable.
A pedestrian must walk on sidewalks, stay away from intoxicants and drugs, cross parking lots with caution, and drive carefully. In this way, there is less chance that they will be hurt in these encounters.
How Do I File a Police Report After an Accident?
Ensure that law enforcement arrives on the scene and files a report. When interviewed at the location of the accident, tell the truth about what you witnessed and experienced. Be cautious when speaking, and avoid making assumptions about things you don’t understand. When victims are anxious and shocked after an accident, even if they are not at fault, they may apologize profusely.
This act of kindness may be construed as evidence that you admitted guilt to avoid paying out on a claim by the insurance company.
