[02-20-2023] Solo Rollover Crash near Mettler Killed Driver, Hospitalized PassengerA woman was killed while a man was hospitalized following a solo high-speed rollover crash near Mettler in Kern County early Monday morning, February 20, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal solo-vehicle crash occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. on northbound Highway 99, north of State Route 166.

The woman was reportedly speeding north on Highway 99 in her 2003 Nissan Sentra when she unsafely turned right and veered off the road. Upon rolling over, the Nissan landed on its roof on the roadway’s right shoulder.

The female driver sustained major injuries after not wearing a seatbelt. She was pronounced dead at the spot by the responders. Her 38-year-old male passenger, also unrestrained, was sent to Kern Medical with minor wounds.

No further details, including the occupants’ identities, were immediately available. Authorities are looking into whether drinking or drugs played a role in the collision.
