DUI Accident Statistics
Drunk driving was a factor in the deaths of 10,142 Americans in 2019. That year, 949 people died in California DUI car accidents, which means the rate in the Golden State was 2.4 per 100,000 people compared to the national average of 3.1 per 100,000. Moreover, in that same year, drunk driving was a factor in 26.3 percent of fatalities in the state and 28.1 percent nationally.
Despite a decline in the number of people killed and the frequency of incidents involving drunk drivers since the 1980s, a second official report showed that there are still too many intoxicated drivers on the road causing problems.
In California, you will be arrested if you have a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08 or greater. Intoxicated drivers endanger the public because they lack the mental clarity required to drive safely.
What to Do After a DUI Accident
It’s crucial to notify the proper authorities as soon as possible following a car accident. Whether communicating with the authorities or an insurance company, it’s vital to keep to the facts and avoid making any assumptions. Victims often feel compelled to apologize, even when they are not at fault. Such actions could be used as justification for the insurance company to deny one’s claim.
