[02-20-2023] Stanislaus County, CA – Woman Killed in Oakdale Single-Car Rollover, Driver Arrested After Leaving the Scene

A 31-year-old woman was killed after being ejected and crushed in a single-vehicle rollover whose driver left the scene in Stanislaus County on Monday night, February 20, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly hit-and-run crash occurred shortly after 8:00 p.m. along River Road east of Sawyer Avenue, west of Oakdale.

The investigation revealed that a Dodge van was traveling eastbound on River when the driver let the vehicle to leave the south shoulder for reasons still under investigation. This led to the van overturning and landing on the passenger side, crushing the female passenger under it after being ejected for not wearing a seatbelt.

The woman, identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as Paige H. of Oakdale, was declared dead on the spot. An Oakdale man identified as Brad S., 26, was located roughly half a mile west of the crash site walking along the road.

It was found out through evidence gathered in the scene that the man was driving the vehicle. He was detained on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run for leaving the scene. This was after he was booked for several charges, including drug possession and grand theft.

The driver was not intoxicated when he was approached by police, CHP said. Investigations continue into more acts of egregious negligence, such as speeding and cell phone use.
