A female driver was injured following a two-vehicle collision caused by a wrong-way driver who got killed in Ontario early Tuesday, February 21, 2023.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred just after midnight at about 12:05 a.m. along the 60 Freeway near the Grove Avenue ramp.
A 78-year-old man from San Bernardino driving a 2011 Honda Civic entered the freeway’s westbound lanes after exiting the Grove Avenue ramp. He ended up going the wrong way, facing the oncoming traffic. He then turned around to get in the right direction, but a 2014 Toyota Camry T-boned him in the process.
The elderly driver was declared dead on the spot by the responders. The 56-year-old Chino woman operating the Camry sustained minor injuries. No further information on their identities was immediately available.
CHP officials stated that the deadly collision caused many lanes of the freeway to shut down, but they were reopened at about 3:45 a.m. after being cleared.
No other details have been made public as the investigation on what caused the event, including the man’s reasons for driving the wrong way, continues.

Victims often feel obligated to apologize, even when they did nothing wrong. The insurer might cite such behavior as grounds for a claim denial.
