According to the California Highway Patrol, a 46-year-old Petaluma man riding a motorcycle on Highway 101 near Novato died in a crash that halted southbound traffic for several hours on Monday, March 7.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred shortly after 6:30 a.m near the San Antonio Road offramp in northern Marin County.
According to the CHP, two southbound highway lanes were closed until around 9:00 a.m.
According to CHP Officer Darrel Horner, the motorcyclist was riding in between the two left lanes when traffic ahead slowed down suddenly, and he wasn’t able to slow down in time.
According to Horner, The CHP believes he then collided with a van in the far left lane before spinning around and colliding with a truck in the next lane over.
Horner said that’s when he was thrown from the motorcycle and landed on the ground.
According to Horner, medics performed CPR on the man and pronounced him dead at the scene.
The authorities are withholding the man’s name until his relatives are notified.
According to Horner, investigators do not believe intoxicated driving played a role in the crash.
