[03-25-2023] One Person Hospitalized in El Cajon Two-Vehicle Crash, Hazmat Unit RespondedAt least one person was hospitalized following a two-vehicle collision that prompted the Hazmat unit to respond in El Cajon on Saturday afternoon, March 25, 2023.

According to the Heartland Fire & Rescue battalion chief, the crash occurred shortly after 2:00 p.m. at the intersection of Lexington Avenue and Claydelle Avenue.

The circumstances that led to the collision involving a car and a pool maintenance truck remain under investigation. The car driver was sent to Grossmont Hospital for unspecified injuries and in an unknown condition. No information was available on the truck driver.

A shelter-in-place order had been issued. Two gallons of chlorine and five gallons of pool acid were discovered to be spilling in the back of the truck. It was immediately contained before the spill leaked into the sewage systems.

The crash is still being investigated. The San Diego County Hazmat Division provided assistance to neutralize the spilled hazardous chemicals.
