Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash Statistics

The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety states that 680,000 people are injured or killed by hit-and-runs annually. In recent years, hit-and-run accidents have claimed more lives. In 2020, these accidents were responsible for 24% of pedestrian fatalities.

Hit-and-run accidents occur when one vehicle collides with another and flees without helping the injured.

These accidents can also result in physical pain, financial and emotional costs, and injuries resulting from negligence or delayed treatment.

Distracted driving is the primary cause of pedestrian injuries. Drivers may converse with passengers, change the radio, or talk on the phone while driving—your chances of missing a pedestrian crossing the street increase when you multitask.

In certain situations, bright clothing can reduce the likelihood of an accident. It would be best to cross the street slowly so that oncoming traffic can see you.
