Recommended Actions to Take After a Hit and Run Accident in Victorville, CA

Drivers involved in traffic accidents must safely pull off the road and remain at the scene. Failing to do so can result in misdemeanor or felony charges. If you are a victim of a hit-and-run accident, follow these steps to protect your rights and strengthen your claim.

  1. Call 911 And Move To Safety
Find a safe location away from traffic and contact emergency authorities immediately. Reporting the accident is essential, even if the driver who caused the crash fled the scene. Providing as much detail as possible to the police can help them locate the responsible party.
  2. Gather All Relevant Information
If the other driver fled, focus on gathering evidence instead. Try to recall as many details as you can, such as the vehicle’s make, model, color, and license plate number. If possible, take photos and videos of the accident scene, damage to your vehicle, skid marks, debris, and any injuries you sustained, or ask somebody to do it for you. Surveillance footage from nearby businesses or homes may also be helpful.
  3. Seek Medical Treatment
Symptoms of injuries may not be immediately noticeable and could take hours or days to appear. Getting a medical evaluation immediately not only protects your health but also provides essential documentation for your case.
