Fatal Train Collision Statistics
According to the National Transportation Safety Board, trains collide with people or vehicles every two hours. Over a thousand people die in train accidents every year. It causes approximately 2,300 injuries and 600 deaths.
The National Transportation Safety Board reports that pedestrians are more likely to die in train accidents than automobile accidents—unsafe crossings cause many fatal train accidents, outdated safety features, and insufficient motorist warning systems.
Over 7,200 people have died in train accidents in the United States since 1997. Trains colliding with pedestrians have recently surpassed all other causes of death on American railroads as the leading cause of fatalities.
In terms of efficiency, trains are the best way to travel. Employee and passenger safety is influenced by various factors, including the conductor’s skill and the maintenance frequency. Because they may take unsafe shortcuts or be careless, they are dangerous.
Other causes of train accidents include derailments, worn-out tracks, disregard for safety regulations, lax security, and other forms of negligence.
