[04-04-2022] Santa Barbara County, CA – One Woman Killed in Fatal Pedestrian Crash Near Carrillo

A woman was struck and killed while attempting to cross the US-101 Southbound Highway on Monday evening, April 4, 2022.

The fatal accident occurred just before midnight on US-101 southbound.

The woman began crossing from the right shoulder of US-101 southbound, heading toward the median.

A 2001 Buick was driving down the 101 at the time and collided with the woman. The Buick driver came to a halt, dialed 9-1-1, and awaited the arrival of emergency personnel.

Shortly after, the unidentified female pedestrian was pronounced dead.

The Buick’s driver was unharmed and was not suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The southbound lanes of US-101 were closed, and traffic was diverted off the freeway at Castillo Street for about two hours.

Traffic was able to re-enter the freeway on the ramp to US 101 southbound at Castillo Street, bypassing the accident scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
