Fatal Train Accident Statistics
The National Transportation Safety Board states trains collide with people or vehicles every two hours. Every year, over a thousand people are killed in train accidents. It caused approximately 2,300 injuries and 600 deaths.
In addition, pedestrians are more likely to die in train accidents than automobile accidents. Unsafe crossings, outmoded or missing safety equipment, and a lack of automobile warning systems cause 50% of all fatal train accidents.
Since 1997, almost 7,200 individuals have perished in train accidents in the United States. Train-pedestrian collisions have lately eclipsed all other causes of death on American railroads as the top cause of fatalities.
The most efficient means of transportation is the train. Various factors, including conductor competency and frequency of maintenance, influence employee and passenger safety. They are risky because they may be negligent or take dangerous shortcuts.
Derailments, worn-out tracks, disrespect for safety requirements, insufficient security, and irresponsibility cause train accidents.
